Nice to meet you! / June 4, 2011

僕、Juno(ジュノ)といいます。

I am Juno. My dad and mommy began to raise me on June fourth, 2011. They say that I was fated to become their son.

While I am a baby as two months old, I do remember the day. I was lonely and sad on a very small sandbar. I couldn't go anywhere and kept crying, miaow miaow. However I don't remember well why I was there. Somebody might have dropped me from the street above the river, I might have fallen over chasing a bug, or I was abandoned and carried by the river.... Anyway the sandbar was surrounded by the river except for the side of the stone wall, which rises straight up. I tried to climb up fastening my claws into the wall over and over, but fell off. To the top of the wall, which is the street, was too high to climb up for the kitten baby. I think the height was 16-20 feet.

In the morning I saw that a woman looked down on me over the street, so I screamed to her, "Help me! Help me!" She watched me a little while, but she left. It let me down though hopes had risen that I might be rescued. This woman is my mommy, but she didn't think that she would become my mommy at that time.

It was very hot daytime. Having been screaming and crying, I was thirsty and starving, but more than that, loneliness and sadness made me feel terrible. My hope was almost gone along with the sunset and I sank down into the ground at the end of my tether. After a while, I noticed that the woman who had watched me this morning was watching me again. As soon as I saw her, I screamed to her, "Help me!” I thought that I had done it, but my mouth only opened without voice because of extreme exhaustion. The woman watched me for longer time than before, but she left again.

It became completely dark. The woman abandoned me even more than once and I was driven to despair. I was scared and feeling miserable and crying again pacing back and forth on the sandbar. Presently I saw that the woman and a man were looking down on the river. Apparently they couldn't see me, but they seemed to look for me. They offered a ray of hope for me and I shrieked with the last of my voice, "Help me!" Then the man noticed my voice and answered something. He is my dad. He still talks about this accident sentimentally. That might be why I remember it very well.

The man tried to cross the river from the park on the opposite side of the street, going down the stairs, but he seemed to give it up because the river was too dark and deeper than he thought. The woman threw a piece of bread toward me, but I didn't know it was food. Also there was the most serious importance for me, so I was frantic to tell them where I was, paying no attention to the bread. Even though I fell off, I tried to climb up fastening my claws into the wall again and again so that they could see me.

And then, the man hung a large bag from the top of the wall, which is the side of the street. I jumped and climbed up the wall to catch hold of it for dear life, but it was still too high to reach it. Apparently the bag handles were joined to a towel instead of a rope. It was not such a short height as a towel reaches.

"You will be okay. Don't worry, I'll rescue you." The man looked down on the river and called to me repeatedly over the bridge that connects the street and the park, walking between the two sides. Meanwhile he discussed with the woman how to rescue me. Owing to his frequent calls, I was feeling secure.

After a while, something fluttered down and was swinging before my eyes. "It looks like the bag. Its handles are connected to a rope. I will be rescued if I catch hold of it!" I desperately tried to catch it. Every time I caught it, the man pulled up a bit, but I fell off at my weak hold. Then the bag fluttered down in front of me again.... These were repeated again and again. The man kept saying to me, "Get in the bag!" Since I didn't know from where I can get in, I groped and sprang at the bag, until I found the opened position and entered it. I felt that the bag held me and was pulled up much higher. While the bag was being pulled up, the man, who had kept calling to me, stopped talking. He told me later that he had concentrated to pull up the bag with bated breath because he had felt that I had gotten in the bag.

Finally I was pulled up to the top of the wall. The man held the bag that contained me and he opened the bag. I put out my face from the bag and said "meow!"  The woman made joyful sound, "Wow! You did it! Amazing! Sooo cute!" The man kissed me again and again, saying "You are okay now." This is how I met my daddy and mommy.
